đź”®Significant Changes to Scope 2 Accounting are concretely underway [ https://lnkd.in/dKBuvxug ].
Considerations for things like Hourly Time Matching, Geographical Matching, and Marginal (Consequential) Accounting are being discussed by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol)'s Independent Standards Board (ISB).
The good news is that changes will not likely start rolling out until 2028. Thus, reporting requirements that are consistent with the GHG Protocol (e.g. GRI) will remain the same for the next 2 years or so.
🤝At Three Pillars Consulting, we support clients in understanding these intended changes, and integrating such considerations into the Decarbonization and Carbon Management Strategies.
⚡With ClimateTab (A Three Pillars Consulting Product), our customers are already fully aligned with today’s Scope 2 Methods and can easily manage and toggle back and forth between their Location-Based and Market-Based Data / Results.
🌍 Beyond that, we are moving towards the ability for our customers to manage their inventory data (particularly electricity) on a granular basis (i.e. hourly), while also being able to geographically link inventory data to energy attribute certificates (e.g. I-RECs).
